Small Biz Tech News, Issue #107

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2426″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Hello! And welcome to the most recent edition of Terrapin Networks’ Small Biz Tech Buzz!

I spent this past weekend in NYC visiting my daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids. My granddaughter, who is 4 and has only ever lived in NYC, said something funny to me when I mentioned a cool car I’d seen: ‘Did you know that my mom and dad call a car an ‘uber’?”

My daughter and son-in-law don’t own a car, and rely on cabs and Ubers to get around. This is so normal for her, that she thought it was a special name – and not the name of one of the most disruptive tech companies to have come about in the last 10 years.

It made me laugh, and also made me think: sometimes, technology is so commonplace that we don’t even think about the origins. We’re so used to it being a part of our day-to-day, that it’s easy to forget how much easier it makes our lives.

Technology can be used that way for your small business, too: it makes your company processes so much easier to use, and improves the quality of your day-to-day so much, that you forget what it was like beforehand.

That’s good tech – and good tech helps good business.

(and with that in mind, don’t forget to check out the vintage CNN piece down at the bottom, describing the internet for a 1993 audience. We’ve come a long way!)

To your continued success-

Tim Gillen CNE, MCP
Small Business Tech Specialist
Founder and President, Terrapin Networks

If you’re new to me, or to my company Terrapin Networks, here’s a little about us: We’re a small IT firm located in Traverse City, Michigan, and we cater exclusively to small businesses and companies with 1-15 computer users. We have a unique perspective on small business and the utilization of technology; with over 25 years experience in the tech field and as small business owners that go back over 40 years in Northern Michigan.
We’re the right fit for those of you who feel too small for the larger IT managed service providers that ignore you for the ‘big dog’ companies, companies who at the same time feel too big for small, one-man-shop IT support providers that likely don’t ‘get’ what your business is working to accomplish. You can read more about us, who we are, and our back story here.
